The Project

The 579-megawatt Solar Star Projects (formerly Antelope Valley Solar Projects) are two co-located solar installations in Kern and Los Angeles counties in California. Construction began in early 2013. The projects are situated on privately owned, previously disturbed land near Rosamond, California. When complete, the Solar Star Projects will deliver enough electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 255,000 homes, according to MidAmerican Solar.

In addition, the projects will create approximately 650 construction jobs over a three-year construction period, while helping California achieve its renewable energy goals.

MidAmerican Solar, a subsidiary of MidAmerican Renewables, owns the projects. SunPower Corporation designed and is constructing the projects, which are being constructed with SunPower™ Oasis™ Power Plant technology. With more than 1,000 megawatts (AC) of solar power plants operating worldwide, SunPower is a proven leader in design and construction of these significant projects. The Solar Star Projects will operate emissions-free for 20 years or more.

The Solar Economy Benefits

  • Approximately 650 solar construction jobs over a three-year construction period
  • More than $500 million in regional economic impact
  • Increased local business activity and public revenue
  • Up to 40 Solar Operations and Maintenance jobs, including 15 full-time site positions
