For an Office Interior to be considered "Green" or "Sustainable", an all-encompassing and holistic approach has to be considered in totality. This holistic approach encompasses the very concept of design itself, from layout to orientation of the space, capitalisation of the site conditions to maximise natural gains (such as lightings) to minimise electrical consumption, choice of finishing to be used for interiors, intelligence of the provided building systems within and without the spaces right down to the psychological factors affecting its occupants (such as colour schemes and maintenance requirement of the spaces). Is there sufficient direction for office designs to manifest spaces that contribute towards sustainability? Are our Architects, Engineers and Interior Designers, and most importantly Clients, well versed and committed towards the same goals? These are some of the questions that need urgent addressing and focus. What are we about to examine are only a micro part of a bigger picture of not only offices, but every type of interior space.
