Nature has a way of healing itself when it is hurt. If we get a cut, our body goes to work repairing the area. Trees do the same when they are injured, releasing resin to repair themselves and to restore balance. The designers at Manufract have created a line of furniture which pays homage to this act of nature by using salvaged wood pieces and filling in the damaged areas with eco-resin. The final result is something uniquely beautiful that reminds us of the natural world’s healing forces.

Marcel Dunger and Florian Meier, co-founders of Manufract, say it’s no accident that bio-resin is the choice to finish these recycled pieces. “Inspired by the self-healing process of trees and we created a new and unique design. If a tree gets injured, it will naturally release resin to close the wound. This natural concept of wound-healing is used for the manufacturing process of these products. Broken pieces of wood are form-filled with a novel eco-resin to get the final shape. Each product is unique and crafted out of broken hardwood,” they explain.

In a twist on conventional design, the broken sections of salvaged materials are highlighted, rather than covered up. The stunning blue hue of the resin almost resembles a peaceful pond or puddle within the wooden outline, creating a deeper connection to the natural origins of the materials. Manufract designs side tables, shelving, and even jewelry using their eco-resin. And each piece is just as unique as the individual trees from which the materials came.
